About

I'm an engineer based in the Netherlands. My day-to-day is Kotlin — backend services, mostly — and I write Swift on the side for the iOS apps I build for myself. This site is partly a portfolio, partly a place to write, and partly an excuse to get more comfortable with Next.js and TypeScript outside of the constrained way I use them at work.

I'm interested in software that is small, considered, and built by people who care about the details. The work I'm most proud of usually started as a Sunday evening side project I couldn't put down.

Work

  1. 2023 — Now
    Senior Backend Engineer
    Acme Cooperative · Remote

Lead engineer on a Kotlin-based payments platform processing several million transactions a month. Coach the team on testing, system design, and the unglamorous art of deleting code.

  2. 2020 — 2023
    Backend Engineer
    Northwind Labs · Amsterdam

Built event-driven services in Kotlin and Go. Helped migrate the monolith to a service mesh without taking the site down on a Friday afternoon, which I'm still proud of.

  3. 2017 — 2020
    Software Engineer
    Smallish Software BV · Utrecht

First engineering job. Touched every layer of the stack, found I liked the backend best, and learned more about CI than I expected.
